Know Pell Grant Requirements This Year

Education is important as it provides one person a secured future. Depending on how he views his life, he can improve it and build his dreams. However, not many can afford the education desired, considering the current inflation. And this is especially true for low and moderate income earners. Luckily, they just have to know the Pell Grant requirements this year to catch up and avail this privilege.

This free government grant requires the same criteria for qualified individuals. The student must be an American citizen or a permanent resident of the country. He must possess a high school diploma, GED, or other documents that prove him to qualify the Pell Grant. He must also have enrolled in college and never had a bachelor’s degree. His record is clean; and he must possess his own social security number.

Every year, the government allocates billions of dollars for the education of American students. Though there can be many students availing the government grant, they have to grab the opportunity and consider the deadline. The deadline of application for next year’s financial assistance is June 30, 2012. Availing the U.S. government grant is on a first come first serve basis. So if you wish this chance to minimize cost on higher education, approach the Federal Student Aid and apply for a Pell Grant. Scholastic ratings are not necessary.

To get information for Pell grant requirements this year will need you to visit your school for which you plan to continue your education. You can also check out websites that offer similar assistance. You need to obtain the application form or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The form can be accomplished manually and sent to the designated office for processing. Or you can apply directly through the FAFSA site and fill out the information needed in the form. This will usually take you an hour to complete. Just ensure you have all pertinent documents ready such as your driver’s license, tax records and recent bank statements. If you do not have this, ask your parents for information and assistance.

It will take two to three weeks to process the FAFSA application. This document determines the amount you will receive from the Federal college grant. You should show your contribution for your education so the government can determine how much they will award you. Your contribution is determined through the Expected Family Contribution or EFC. And you must remember that this should be close to zero to receive a higher amount of government grant. Information about the amount and where to get it will be shown on the Student Aid Report (SAR).

Now you have obtained the required financial assistance from the government through Pell Grant. This is your chance to prove to them you are worth the school grant. You can now spend more time in school without worrying about fees. You can study the education you are aiming for. One day the knowledge you learn will improve your life.
